Pay attention to what goes into your body!!

I love this brief but informative piece by Men's Health Magazine "Eat This Not That" on energy bars. There is a huge misconception about them. I often see people noshing on them without understanding what's in them or their purpose. Many self proclaimed "energy bars" are energy in simple sugar form--in other words, they are extra calories that can be converted to glucose if you're body needs the fuel after a grueling workout. Most of us however need to cut or maintain calories rather than inhale them in two bits. It's true that "energy bars" are convenient, and taste like candy bars but it's also true that many of them are equivalent to candy bars. Bottom line, know what you're putting in your mouth. Read labels. And read this post to give you a head start!

For a long time my personal favorites have been Larabars (gluten free and usually made of just 3 or 4 simple whole food ingredients), Jay Robb's whey protein bars, and some cliff bars depending on my activity.

Stay tuned for a post on the foods I use to keep my body exercise happy!
