First you must know your own skin...
There are two kinds of exfoliators: physical ones (oats, crystals), which remove dead skin by literally scrubbing it away, and chemical types (glycolic, fruit acids), which dissolve the bonds that hold skin cells together, allowing them to slough off more easily. Limit exfoliation to once a week until you know how your skin reacts. Then, you can scrub up to three times if your skin isn't showing signs of irritation.
Oatmeal-Lavender Face Scrub
1 cup ground oatmeal
1/2 cup dry lavender flowers, stripped of stalks
1/2 cup powdered milk (either whole or nonfat)
2 tsp. cornmeal
Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl, massage into damp skin, and rinse with warm water. (Scrub will keep for six months.)

Why oatmeal? Oatmeal whisks away dead cells, irritation, and redness. It contains polysaccharides, which become gelatinous in water and leave a fine protective film on the skin, preventing dull, flake-y dryness. Oats are full of healthy, lubricating fats which moisturize skin. The proteins in oatmeal help maintain the skin's natural barrier function, which is what ensures that the world outside the skin stays out, and what's inside the skin stays in. And, oats are filled with natural cleansers (called saponins) that gently remove dirt and oil from the pores.
WHY Lavender? Originally from the latin word "lavare" meaning "to wash," it is strong in germicidal and antiseptic properites. Lavender is great for the treatment of acne, eczema, dermatitis, fungus, burns and wounds. It makes a refreshing astringent as well as an effective Skin Care moisturizer. (In addition, it can alleviate aches, pains and swelling from arthritis, injury, headache, and other maladies. Lavender can also alleviate motion sickness, and research shows that lavender is beneficial for the treatment of indigestion, hypoglycemia, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, kidney stones and anemia. It is non-toxic, non-irritant and non-sensitizing).

WHY Pineapple? Pineapple fruit promotes skin elasticity while removing dead damaged skin and improving hydration, moisture and promoting a more elastic and clear looking skin. It has some active principles with important effect on skin - sugars and a-hydroxy-acids(AHA) as well as enzymes.
WHY Parsley? It has a large amount of Vitamin C which is a powerful anti-oxidant and in conjunction with protein, is necessary for the production of collagen - the glue that holds us and our skin together and circumvents sags or wrinkles. It regulates sebaceous glands to keep skin from drying out; helps prevent facial lines, wrinkles and spider veins.
WHY Olive oil? It helps moisturize, smooth, and with elasticity of the skin.

WHY sugar? The granulated particles of brown sugar in the sugar body scrub serve as tiny scrubbing beads that slough off dead surface skin cells and smooth over rough patches of skin. The sugar scrub must be applied to dry skin in a gentle, circular motion in order for the exfoliating action of the beads to work properly, removing as much of the dead skin cells as possible while unclogging skin pores. The sugar beads glide over the dried patches of skin, removing them to reveal the soft skin underneath. The glycerin in the scrub moisturizes the skin, making it soft and giving the complexion an overall glow. A sugar body scrub rejuvenates the skin and can be used on any part of the body.
WHY rose? Rose petals, water and rose oil are antiseptic and astringent. Rose preparations are gentle and benefit dry or sensitive skin.
WHY orange? Vitamin C again which is a powerful anti-oxidant and in conjunction with protein, is necessary for the production of collagen - the glue that holds us and our skin together and circumvents sags or wrinkles. helps with glow!!
WHY sesame oil? Research shows that sesame seed oil is a potent antioxidant. In the tissues beneath the skin, this oil will neutralize oxygen radicals. It penetrates into the skin quickly and enters the blood stream through the capillaries. Molecules of sesame seed oil maintain good cholesterol (HDL) and lower bad cholesterol (LDL).
