I impromptuly whipped up an apple turnover for Matt's breakfast yesterday. He said it turned out a bit sweet for breakfast but for some people would be perfect--think doughnuts...are those not sugary-sweet? Anyway here's a very easy way to impress some people and create a make-ahead recipe that you just have to pop in the oven in the morning.
Ingredients
1 apple per turnover (I used pink lady apples)
cinnamon-sugar mix (simply mix equal parts cinnamon with cane sugar)
2 tbsp. flour per turnover
puff pastry dough (I used Pepperidge Farms - it fluffs nicely)
Pam cooking spray
Directions
Thaw puff pastry for 40 minutes before wrapping turnover.
Cut puff pastry sheet into a triangle (they come in rectangles, so make one long cut diagonally).
Dice apples and microwave for 3 minutes or until soft.
Mix 3 tablespoons of cinnamon-sugar mix into apples.
Spoon apple mixture into center of pastry dough then fold dough over to close. Push edges together with fork.
Spray top of turnover with Pam then sprinkle lightly with more cinnamon-sugar mix.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 10 minutes or until pastry is puffy and golden brown.
Yum!
