Kitchen calorie help

Now that I am baking more (well, a ton), I am curious as to how the calories stack up on the foods I'm preparing in my own kitchen. I keep a mental note of the calories I've consumed throughout the day and when I'm super good (and have time) I use the SparkPeople website I introduced to you all a few weeks back.

I discovered that SparkPeople has another very handy tool--a calorie calculator for your recipes! You simply enter the ingredients, their amounts, and how many servings it makes and it will punch out a complete nutritional profile. For example, my favorite pumpkin muffins are to the right -->

It gives you full vitamin and mineral percentages as well. I'm loving this! Click HERE to visit the website.

And below is my pumpkin muffin/bread recipe:

Ingredients

2 cups Flour (white or wheat--wheat takes longer to bake) 1/3 cup yellow cornmeal 1/4 cup olive oil 1/2 cup honey 1 - 15oz. can of pumpkin puree 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tsp. baking soda *You can add cranberries, dates, walnuts, chocolate, etc. for some tasty morsels if you like (not included on the nutritional chart).

Directions

Put everything in a bowl. Mix well then put in a greased bread pan or muffin tins and bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes for bread pan or 15-20 min. for muffins (or until center is dry).
*Using whole wheat flour will shorten the baking time. Keep an eye on it!

Number of Servings: 9
