Fatty news

GLOBESITY--the pandemic sweeping America (obviously) but numerous other countries around the world. The plant is heavy...too heavy to be healthy.

Our students are unfortunately a large chunk (pun intended) of the obese population. Michelle Obama, Jamie Oliver, and others have begun campaigns to change and rectify this growing issue. But how bad is it really? A recent survey of 12,000 students reported that nearly 25% are obese and many more lead unhealthy lives. This report comes from The Australian by Health Editor Adam Cresswell.

The vast majority of the children, 85 per cent, did less exercise than the minimum healthy amount of 60 minutes daily, while less than a quarter ate the recommended amount of vegetables and just over one-third ate a healthy ration of fruit. These kids are a time bomb not only for becoming overweight but harvesting the myriad of other chronic disease associated with being over weight. And when 75% of overweight kids become obese adults, where does leave us in the future? Not happy, but fat.

There are a lot of causations but here are some significant ones the report mentioned; a few that corporate America won't be removing any time soon. "More than half the children (55 per cent) said they tried a new food or drink product in the past month because they had seen it advertised.
In addition, 25 per cent had chosen a fast food outlet because it had a special offer or giveaway with a meal, while nearly 20 per cent chose a food or drink because it was linked to a movie or sports personality they liked..."This piece of research confirms what we've feared for some time: that the high school students of today will grow up to be the heart attack victims of tomorrow."
It's never too late to start eating healthy today. Remember, let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food!
