New recipe search tool

As if there aren't a billion food blogs and great websites to follow on the web already, google has given us another easy way to find the delicious recipes we're searching for. 

The feature basically restricts your search results to only recipes, then allows you filter them by ingredient, cook time and calories. A search for "chocolate cake," for example, yields over 300,000 recipes, but filtering the results to 30-minute recipes that include coffee cuts that to a more manageable 906 recipes. There's also the option of excluding ingredients you don't want, so if you know you're out of crème fraiche, you can filter out recipes that include it.

The feature is brand-new, so the selection of websites with indexed recipes is still pretty slim, with Epicurious, Food Network and Smitten Kitchen seeming to pop up most often in our test searches. For sites that allow users to review recipes, the ratings are clearly displayed with the results, which we find very useful.

According to the Chicago Tribune, approximately one percent of Google searches are for recipes. That's 10 million queries a day! With all that traffic, we're wondering if this feature might one day be as indispensable as the search engine itself.
