Let's eat live shrimp!

My boyfriend and I went out to our favorite date-night dinner, sushi. We have a fantastic place (Wasabi Sushi in PB--highly recommend to anyone in the SD area) which treats us like royalty. Probably because we've been going there for years every few weeks, they load us up with huge nigiri portions and the best cuts of yellow tail belly. YUM!

This is the guy I ate.
Last night my boyfriend surprised me and treated me to something "fun."  He ordered the live amoebe. It reminds me amoeba, the parasite. But no, this is a large type of shrimp that the restaurant keeps live and brings out to you. They rip the head off in front of you, peel back the shell then serve it as nigiri (just with rice). It's almost still moving but wickedly fresh. Meanwhile, they take the heads and fry them up...eyeballs, feelers and all. It's crunchy and tastes like french fries.

It was definitely "fun" and a yummy experience (once I popped the eyes out of the head). So why indulge in this other than the fun factor? Shrimp is very good for your health!

Shrimp are very high in selenium, low in fat, and a low calorie protein. They offer a lovely source of Vit. D and B12. It's true that while low in fat, they are high in cholesterol. Don't eat it everyday but the triglycerides are lower in shrimp than eggs, so you're okay. Like most fish and crustaceans, shrimp is high in Omega 3s--which does wonders for your health.
