spin/cycle--a weekly regime

Indoor cycle (also known as Spin class) has become a popular cardio class for gym-going exercisers. Personally, as a proponent of outdoor workouts I found myself needing an alternative when the weather wasn't cooperating, when I didn't "feel like" running, or there simply wasn't enough time. I turned inside to spin classes and found a new passion.
Like most people I am particular about the music and routine that I workout to. I found two instructors that I enjoyed but  because of grad school couldn't make their classes often. I began making my own spin routine to music that pumped me up and decided to audition to become an instructor. I got the gig and now teach weekly on Sundays and sub (usually the dreaded 545am class).
Cycle is a great workout--you can blast anywhere between 500-1000 calories. This number  depends on the workout you choose to give yourself which leads me to another great benefit of a cycle workout. While the group setting is great for motivation and guidance, each person sets their own resistance and creates their own workout. MY 8 resistance setting will be different from the woman/man's next to me--you can push yourself or relax according to how your body is feeling. This type of workout is great for cross-training, individual muscle work, as well as teaching a person to listen to his/her body. The workout targets leg muscles, engages abdominals, works glutes, and other muscles in the region. You sweat like a water fountain (great for pushing out toxins) and leave feeling like you kicked your own ass--come back next week!
